Since 1993, the \"Strategies for Policy in Science and Education\" journal has been evolving and has established itself as a respected forum for scientific discussions on the current issues of school education and higher education in Bulgaria, Europe and the world, on the policies concerning education and science and their strategic dimensions and projections, on the innovative teaching practices and the contributions to the development of science and education.<br \/>\nThe \"Strategies for Policy in Science and Education\" journal has always been and will continue to be a voice and an ally of the objective scientific truth when it comes to problems and challenges that can only be overcome through the meeting of various viewpoints and the tolerant dialogue between the people and the institutions working in science and education.<br \/>\nIn today\u2019s age of cutting-edge information technologies and communication without borders, science and education are, now more than ever, called to stay ahead of the times and to offer working solutions how to face challenges such as:<br \/>\n\u2013 the rapid digital transformation of school education and higher education;<br \/>\n\u2013 reaching an alignment between educational content and digital generations\u2019 needs, as well as their preparation for the professions of the future;<br \/>\n\u2013 the modernization of schools and universities in the country and increasing their competitiveness in the global market of educational services;<br \/>\n\u2013 increasing the share of scientific innovations on issues of global importance and changing the educational and scientific paradigm in the direction of inter- and multidisciplinarity;<br \/>\n\u2013 increasing the share of project funding in the fields of science and education, encouraging the work of international interdisciplinary teams and establishing the authority of Bulgarian science and education in the context of the world through significant projects in the upcoming new programme period of 2021 \u2013 2027.<br \/>\nOur past experience and our serious achievements in the fields of science and education are proof that even in extreme conditions, as is the case of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Bulgarian science and education have a great potential for innovative solutions that work in favor of social progress.<br \/>\nAs has been the case so far, the \"Strategies for Policy in Science and Education\" journal will strive to be \u201cat the frontlines\u201d, to offer a forum for announcing brave new ideas discussing scientific challenges, to make way for new visions and strategic priorities, to set the right tone through scientifically conformed information and to provoke discussions beneficial for the future of science and education.<br \/>\nIn order to achieve this, the journal will continue to rely on its authors and its authoritative international Editorial Board, whom I wish to thank for their dedicated work and creative efforts.<br \/>\nLet us together establish and further develop the high international rating of the \"Strategies for Policy in Science and Education\" journal. The dynamics and the relationship between innovation and key macroeconomic indicators for economic growth, the labor market and income inequality in Bulgaria and the EU have been empirically examined. In some sectors of education, the formal transfer of existed experience would not achieve the expected result. In maritime education and training, attempts have been made to replace some traditional forms of teaching with modern online methods. A number of researchers have expressed a positive attitude towards web-based courses, on-board training using animation tools and more. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced educational institutions involved in primary maritime education to accelerate the application of new methods. The present study aims to establish the attitudes and perceptions of students and professors from Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy for the quality of the conducted three-month online training in specialized subjects for deck officers. Digital technologies have a perceptible impact on innovations, economic growth, the labor market and the type of digital skills for citizens that are necessary not only for successful professional realization but also for participation in public life and maintaining social contacts. \nThe text presents data from an empirical study which focuses on operational and information digital skills (according to classification of Van Dijk) as a main prerequisite for successful professional realization of students in the higher education system. The method used for data collection is a questionnaire constructed in accordance with the European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens (DigComp 2.1).<br \/>\nThe authors present analysis of current students' digital communication skills including interaction through technology, sharing information and content, using online resources for educational purpose, and the level of digital skills acquired through various educational activities. The aim is to prove the advantage of a multidisciplinary approach that integrates theory and practice, philosophical and scientific knowledge. Following an analysis of the experience of countries such as the US, UK, Canada, etc. regarding the different ways of teaching the discipline, the advantages of this method are evident. Regulations in Bulgaria are also taken into account. During this period some very important physiological and psychological changes occur in the personality. It is the time for the formation of personal qualities and moral virtues, social competences, revealing the uniqueness and potential of each person, the development of creativity, initiative and entrepreneurship. The formation of these so valuable to the human personality qualities is highly influenced by the interaction of the students with teachers of a new type. These are teachers possessing a large set of personal and professional qualities dedicated to the mission to devote their lives to educating future generations, producing creators of the human progress.<br \/>\nThe article presents the results of the author&#8217;s study conducted with students from different educational stages, with students from the pedagogical specialties and with practitioners. The research methods used are: pedagogical study, test, content analysis, correlation analysis, pertinent analysis and range scaling. It was found out that the teacher of the modern times is called upon to carry out his or her professional activity in harmony with the permanently changing world. He is required to be adaptable, creative, a good professional, a creator. He or she cannot fully fulfill his or her professional roles in the new reality unless being led by love for the children with whom he or she interacts professionally or if is not devoted to the
