Abstract. The aim of the article is to show that improving school performance can start with the implementation of correct strategies for reading texts. The first strategy – joint learning through reading texts is expressed in the fact that students in connection with a specific written text communicate with each other in small groups, together making sense of, analyzing and commenting on the information in the text, drawing conclusions based on what they have read, exchanging experiences. Second strategy – students are given the opportunity to read texts that interest them and excite them, and thus reading becomes a pleasure. Another reading strategy that develops students' creative thinking is role-playing. Whether they are in 5th or 7th grade, role-playing “challenges” children and they are ready to be any character (even the narrator).
