Abstract. The article presents the process and results of the students' training in the academic course on “Methodology of teaching about man, nature and society” to describe and present the homeland, as an integrative core of the education in the subject and a context for the formation of key and specific competencies. A rationale is given to the applicability of the created algorithm for description and adapted cognitive cycle for training, aimed at developing key and subject-specific competencies that pre-service primary teachers need to demonstrate in their teaching. The results of the study support the effectiveness of the tested didactic model for the effective development of competencies.
